OpenLaszlo/DOJO Partnership

This is fantastic (found via Ajaxian).  I’m glad to see the DHTML community working with the Flash community.  Only bigger and better things will come of this.

I was originally leaning towards using the Prototype library for my next project, but this is causing me to re-think that decision.  I’m going to have to go back and re-evaluate Prototype and OpenLaszlo now because I think that tandem is going to be a killer and very well may become the standard Web 2.0 application building block of choice.

The only reservation I have about all this is the speed of Flash sites, as you’ve probably noticed if you use Goowy.  However, I need to go back and re-run some tests on it before I make a final decision, with proper architecture I can forsee the performance being just fine.

    Hi Jason,

A quick clarification. OpenLaszlo is actually going to be targetting DHTML as well as Flash. We announced this move in early March, and you can look at an early demo at our website (http://www.openlaszlo.org). Same source code, compiled to both Flash and DHTML. So the Dojo partnership is intended to improve OpenLaszlo's DHTML support, while giving back code to the Ajax community.

Indeed you are right, thank you for the clarification. Speaking of which, is there any possibility of using the two interchangably at some point? Some parts if Flash and some in DHTML? Not sure if that's even possible, but hey, I can wish :)

In either case, great to see you're supporting DHTML, I like it better ;)
