The inner workings of spyware

I’ve always been curious about spyware companies.  I mean, what other kind of company on the planet, aside from spammers, is directly focused on creating something that annoys people to death in order to make money?  It’s like if a local business started throwing printed ads attached to bricks Spy through your front windows.  Anyway, via, J. LeRoy I found a great article on MSN about how spyware companies operate, and it’s a great read, I highly recommend it.  The fact that they conciously try to make their software un-removable makes me wonder how these companies are actually legal, and why they’re not prosecuted in the same way as people who write viruses.

On another note, you have to assume that there are people out there who actually buy stuff from spyware and spam, because otherwise it would disappear.  Who are these people?  I have a bridge in Brooklyn that’s for sale, real cheap!
