What's old is new again: Wirelessly transmitting power

This is very intriguing to me:  researchers at MIT are looking at a technique for wirelessly transmitting power using resonance.  This item immediately caught my eye, because it's a topic that I would absolutely love to see more research and time devoted to.

As the article mentions, this is NOT a new idea.  Nikola Tesla started experimenting with transmitting energy with resonance in the late 1800's until he ran out of money.  (Man if only we had had the venture capital bubble we had now back then, we might have been running wireless power for 75 years or more by now...)  There are oriental fighting techniques that use sound waves to cripple opponents.  There is a lot of evidence that resonance was used as a way to transmit and convert electrical energy thousands of years ago.

It's funny how the more we think we know, the more we realize how many things were known before.  In any case, I'm glad wireless power looks to be next on the list of rediscoveries, I can't wait to get rid of my chargers and power cables.
