SaaSquatch

Well, I’m a little late to get back to blogging this year, but I do have an excuse :)   Although I’ve been pretty quite for the past week, I haven’t exactly been relaxing, I’ve been busy working on a new site.  About two weeks ago I was looking for a list of CRM applications available over the Web (SaaS-style) for my own use and I couldn’t find one.  I discovered that there was no good directory of software as a service (SaaS) vendors, so I decided to build one.

So here it is, I’m officially launching a new site:  SaaS BooM (symmetric, eh?).  I’m calling it a "social software directory" because I added features to allow people to rate and comment on the individual software packages in the hope that by pooling knowledge the whole thign will be more useful.  If you spot a hole in the listings please Saasboomonwhite_1 drop  me a line and I’ll fill it.  Once the listings are complete I plan to start filling it out with full-blown reviews like the one I wrote up on Salesforce.com.  I also feel that open source software is finally getting to the point where it’s competitive with commercial software if you have a little in-house IT expertise to configure it, so I also created an embedded cross-reference between SaaS software and open source alternatives.  Again, just something that I find personally useful.

I’ll also be writing some SaaS-related posts on the site, beginning with three I’ve already written:

I could have really used a resource like this several times in the past, hopefully you’ll find it useful as well.  The tagline of the site is "A CIO’s Best Friend", because it’s a resource that I think (hope) will make CIO’s lives a lot easier when it comes time to select software for the enterprise.  I’ve tried to fill it with all of the information that I need when I make that decision.  Take a look when you get a chance and drop some feedback, I’m interested to know if it’s something that looks useful to the larger Internet community.
